Tomi Uotila on monipuolinen, monilla eri sellotaiteen alueilla vaikuttava sellotaiteilija. Hän on konsertoinut resitaalikonsertein (recital concerts), soittanut orkesterin solistina, työskennellyt sinfoniaorkesterin soolosellistinä sekä levyttänyt ja tehnyt radionauhoja. Myös kamarimusiikki on Tomille läheistä. Tomin ja hänen vaimonsa Marianne Uotilan ainutlaatuinen sello-kantele -duo on esiintynyt lukuisin konsertein useissa eri maissa. Tomi on hyvin kiinnostunut erilaisten taidemuotojen yhteistyöstä. Tällainen avara taiteiden yhdistäminen on myös On This Planet -teoksen takana. Teosta on kehitelty Tomin ideoiden pohjalta. Työssään sellopedagogina Tomi pyrkii samoin edistämään taiteiden tiukat raja-aidat ylittävää taiteellista näkemystä. Tomi Uotila is a diverse cello artists, who influences various fields of cellomusic. He has performed recital concerts, played as soloist in an orchestra, worked as a solocellist in a symphony orchestra as well as recorded and made radiotapes. Chamber music is also close to Tomi’s heart. Tomi and his wife’s - Marianne Uotila’s - unique cello and kantele-duo has performed in various countries with numerous concerts. Tomi is very interested in the integration of different artforms. This kind of broad assimilations of arts is also behind On This Planet. The compilation has been influenced by Tomi’s ideas.
